Solar power charging

Solar power charging controlled via external energy manager

With "charging controlled via external energy manager" an energy management system is incorporated between the inverter and the wallbox. The EMS receives from the inverter all relevant parameters for wallbox operation and reads these out via the Modbus/TCP interface.

Automatic phase switching

in preparation

The automatic phase switching is an essential function for optimised solar power charging. Depending on the available power of the self-generated energy from the PV system the wallbox automatically switches 2 phases off or on, to ensure an optimum charging process without interruptions. The reason for this is that as soon as the charging current drops below a limiting value (4.1 kW for 3-phase charging or 1.4 kW for 1-phase charging), the charging process is discontinued completely. This value represents the required minimum current.

If due to heavy cloud cover the solar power now briefly drops below 4.1 kW the wallbox switches from 3-phase to 1-phase charging. Charging can continue with a lower output. Only 1.4 kW of output needs to be present (limiting value for 1-phase charging). If the current from PV self-generation subsequently increases to above 4.1 kW again, then the charging station automatically switches back from 1-phase to 3-phase charging. Without automatic switching, during 3-phase charging, if the output drops, the PV system discontinues the charging process, since the minimum charging current for 3-phase charging is no longer reached.

Solar power charging via floating enabling contact

With solar power charging via an external enabling contact, the wallbox is connected by a control line with the inverter, so that signals can be sent from the inverter to the wallbox. As soon as a previously defined PV excess (minimum charging power) is present, the inverter receives an enabling signal to begin the electric vehicle charging process. The supply of power lasts for as long as an excess is being generated by the PV system.
